Begin by removing the screws from the door knob on the interior side of your door.
Tap the end of a chisel under the door stop on the striker side of the jamb.

Once you have the kit remove the lock cylinder from the door knob so you can change the pins inside.
Remove the cylinder plug from the cylinder.
Next put a new latch in and replace the door knob.

If it won t lock open the door.
Rekey the locks you ve bought to match your existing house key.
Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it.
Remove the two screws from the latch plate on the edge of the door and remove the latch from the opening.
In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged.
Make sure your door does not need a lock extension kit.
Install the new lock body.

Replace the lock latch.
