If your house keys are ever stolen one of your first orders of business is changing the locks on your doors so no one can gain access. Insert the old key and turn it either to the left or right. Using a credit is another popular lock bypass method that can be used to unlock a door without a key. The only way to lock or unlock the knob is by using a key on the exterior knob ensuring that both you and your key are on the same side of the door.

Remove the old lock. There are still some rather elaborate scenarios where you can lock yourself out but they re far less likely to occur since they all require you to knowingly and intentionally lock the door. When all the doors are closed and the key is in the on position moving the shift lever out of park will automatically lock all doors. Step 2 mode 2 cancels the automatic locking and unlocking function so that they do not operate at any time.

If the power door lock relay fails it will cut off power to the entire power door lock system and may cause them to not function correctly. Buy a grade 2 or grade 1 door locks. Alternatively you can buy a re keying kit for the lock you already have. Begin by removing the screws from the door knob on the interior side of your door.

Tap the end of a chisel under the door stop on the striker side of the jamb. Check for proper lock alignment. The top of the cylinder contains pins and springs which keep pressure on the keyed pins. Once you have the kit remove the lock cylinder from the door knob so you can change the pins inside.

Remove the cylinder plug from the cylinder. Next put a new latch in and replace the door knob. Unlike the methods described above the tools necessary for this job are very easy to acquire. Do not skip this last step.

This allows you to pull the door. If it won t lock open the door. Rekey the locks you ve bought to match your existing house key. Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it.

Remove the two screws from the latch plate on the edge of the door and remove the latch from the opening. In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged. Make sure your door does not need a lock extension kit. Install the new lock body.

Mode 1 links the automatic locking only of the doors with the shift position. The most critical part of this operation is removing the cylinder plug from the cylinder. Replace the lock latch. Improperly installed locks can by bypassed in just a few seconds.
