For busy artists who are producing lots of commissions or have a time limit to finish a series for an upcoming show a faster oil paint drying time is imperative.

Linseed oil dries faster than walnut oil which itself dries faster than poppy oil. Latex paints about 30 days. Paint doesn t cure or reach maximum hardness until days after the paint is dry. Because of this you have much more time to manipulate oil paint on your canvas before it dries.

Artist oil paint on untreated wood will react to the wood and over time the wood will start to rot and deteriorate. Oil based paint is more durable and takes longer to dry than water based paint. This means that the paint also has to cure.
